Solution:

1).    Given, 8 × 40 = 10 × ?
? = (8 × 40) / 10 = 32
Required  days = 32 days
Answer:  b)

2). A’s 1 day’s work = 1 / 18
B’s 1 day’s work = 1 / 27
and C’s 1 day’s work = 1 / 36
Suppose C worked for = x days
:. A worked for (x – 7) days and B worked for (x – 8) days.
Given, [ (x – 7) / 18 ] + [ (x – 8) / 27 ] + (x / 36) = 1
(6x – 42 + 4x – 32 + 3x) / 108 = 1
(13x – 74) / 108 = 1
13x = 108 + 74 = 182
:. x = 182 / 13 = 14
Answer: c)

3). Let A takes n days to complete a work.
Then, time taken by B = 2 n
(A + B)’s 1 day work = 1 / 12
(1 / n) + (1 / 2n) = 1 / 12
(2 + 1) / 2n  = 1 / 12
(12 × 3) / 2 = n
n = 18
Time taken by B alone = 2 n = 2 × 18 = 36 days
