India’s first elevated train terminus to come up at Thakurli
Mumbai: Thakurli station on Central Railway will boast of India's first elevated train terminus for long-distance trains. The terminus will be an elevated one so that passengers who are to depart can board trains from the upper deck while those arriving passenger alight at the ground level and will be able to get into private vehicles, taxis or autos, said a railway official.

This is to ensure that the concourse does not get crowded with people and vehicles as both out-bound and in-bound passengers assemble in the same space.

"We have planned two platforms but it could go up to five," said the official. "Bids to appoint a consultant to prepare a detailed project report for the terminus building will be invited ." The estimated cost of the project is Rs1,250 crore.

The official said it will take at least three or four years to complete the terminus. Its building will have state-of-the art facilities with modern dormitories, waiting room, and booking offices.

Currently, long-distance trains originate from and terminate at CST, Dadar and LTT, while most trains operate via Kalyan, the biggest station.

Thakurli needs a terminus as the population has shot up in satellite townships, said railway officials.

The railways have in their possession 80 acres of land in Thakurli which was reserved for a power plant but the plan for the plant has been shelved.

'Suhaag' is just filmi dialogue: Headley
hrough the five-and-half-hour proceedings that began at 7am on Thursday, David Headley repeatedly gave curt and angry responses to questions posed by defence advocate Wahab Khan who was cross-examining him. "He likes to spin conspiracy theories," he said when Khan insinuated through several questions that he was present in the control room in Karachi during the 26/11 attacks.
Headley also stonewalled about 20 questions relating to his wife Shazia Gilani and repeatedly said it was his "private matter and privileged conversation." At one point, when Khan asked him if Shazia hated India and Indians, he snapped, "I'll conduct a survey and let you know." Asked if during NIA interrogation, they had questioned him about Shazia's activities, Headley snapped, "What activities? Cooking activities?"

Questions on Shazia ranged from her father being an ISI man, her complicity in the crime to speaking to him in code language in emails in reference to the attacks in which she said, "I have been watching cartoons and I am proud of you." Asked where Shazia's father worked, he said, "That's private. Where was your father working?" Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam objected to the line of questioning and said Khan was trying to "irritate the witness." With respect to an instance where his ex-wife, Faiza Outallah, had gone to LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, Headley clarified she had requested the "spiritual leader" to make him take her back after divorce. Wahab tried to state it was done to protect her husband and seek his departure from LeT. "Woh apna suhaag bachana chahati thi," he said. Headley denied this and said it was just a filmi dialogue.

When Khan repeatedly asked him if he was unhappy with the damage caused by 26/11, Headley launched into a tirade. "Fizool aap bewakoofon wale sawaal poochte hain. Aap shayari karte hain, sawaal nahin poochte," he said. Khan answered, "Naa main Iqbal hoon, naa Faiz hoon, main lawyer hoon, apna farz nibha raha hoon." "Lag nahin rahan hain," Headley replied. At one point the judge asked both the defence and prosceution to behave themselves. "International cognisance is being taken of this trial," he said.

Agartala becomes India's third int'l internet gateway
rime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday inaugurated an international internet gateway in Agartala. This is the country's third international internet gateway after the ones in Mumbai and Chennai.
The two leaders also opened a power transmission project between their countries in which Tripura's Palatana plant will supply 100 MW power to Bangladesh.
Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar in Agartala, Modi in New Delhi and Hasina in Dhaka were connected via video-conference on Wednesday morning before the projects were formally declared open.
India will import 10 GB internet bandwidth from an internet port in Cox's Bazar in the neighbouring country.
The internet gateway was jointly built by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) and connected to the 10-GB bandwidth at Akhaura checkpost in Agartala in January.
Modi said the export of power was not a deal but an initiative to strengthen the neighbourhood. The opening of the country's third internet gateway was a milestone of the Centre's Act East Policy and Digital India programme, he added.
