India, China investments in Renewable Energy in 2015: UN report:
India and China have led the developing countries in investments made in renewable energy in 2015. The report ‘Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2016’ by the UN Environment Programme said the developing world including China, India and Brazil committed a total of USD 156 billion in new renewables capacity last year, up 19 per cent from 2014.


Arvind Kejriwal named among World’s 50 greatest leaders by Fortune Magazine:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind kejriwal has been named among the world’s 50 greatest leaders by fortune magazine. He is sole leader from India in the list and has been placed at 42nd position.
2016 edition is fortune magazine’s third annual “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders” list and it has been topped by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Mint plant can help fight cancer: CIMAP Researchers:
Scientists at Lucknow based CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) has found that mint plant has medicinal values that can cure cancer.
They have identified that a medicinal compound called ‘L-Menthol’ derived from Mentha plant popularly known as mint.

Economy to grow at 7.2% in 2016-17: BMI Research:
BMI Research said that the Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.2 per cent in 2016-17. Earlier BMI projected a growth rate of 7.3 per cent in FY2015/16. Indian economy continues to face multiple challenges, and this is being reflected in high frequency data such as industrial production and trade, it added.

Current Account Deficit Narrows to 1.3% of GDP in 3rd Quarter:
India’s current account deficit narrowed to 1.3% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the fiscal third quarter.
In the earlier year 1.5% traded as deficit contracted. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed in date that trade deficit during the October-December quarter narrowed to $34 billion from $38.6 billion during the same period in 2014-15.

Story telling artist V D Rajappan passes away:
Kerala’s popular story telling artist (‘Kaddhaprasangam’) and Malayalam film actor, V D Rajappan passed away at a private hospital in Kottayam.
Rajappan, who acted in over 50 Malayalam movies, was known for his unique style of presenting ‘Kadhaprasangam’ in a satirical manner.

Former Intel CEO Andrew Grove passes away:
Intel’s former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman Andrew Grove passed due to away Parkinson’s disease. He was 79. He was a science pioneer in the semiconductor industry and under his leadership Intel became a household name in computers.

Paytm appoints ex- head of Alibaba as its President:
Mobile payment and e-commerce site Paytm has appointed Bhusan patil as its new President. He was the head of Alibaba wholesale groups earlier.
Paytm has appointed its new President to help Paytm grow across the borders. It has planned to increase its sellers.

HL Dattu appointed to international Human rights body:
Justice HL Dattu, chairperson, National Human Rights Commission, India emerged as the unanimous choice to be appointed as a member of the International Coordinating Committee of NHRIs (ICC) Bureau in Geneva.

Shane Watson to retire from international cricket:
Australian all-rounder Shane Watson declared that he will call time on his 14-year-old international cricket career at the end of his team’s campaign in the ongoing ICC World Twenty-20. The 34-year-old has already retired from Test cricket.
