  • Women drivers, women driving with children below 12, CNG, electric and hybrid vehicles, two-wheelers, emergency service vehicles, and cars belonging to a long list of VVIPs are among the 20 categories exempted from the odd-even formula to be enforced in Delhi from January 1, 2016.
  • Under the scheme, odd numbered cars will ply on odd days, and even numbered cars on even days.
  • In the Capital, which is battling a high level of air pollution, the odd-even traffic formula is expected to keep about 10 lakh private cars off the road. The formula, which will be in effect from 8 am to 8 pm, imposes a fine of ₹2,000 for offenders.

  • Modi to inaugurate Afhanistan’s parliament building, and would hand over four Mi-25 attack helicopters.
  • During his visit today, the Prime Minister would unveil two of India’s most important initiatives in Afghanistan during the short visit: the inauguration of the parliament building, and handing over ceremony for four Mi-25 attack helicopters.
  • Mr. Modi was greeted at the Kabul airport by Afghan NSA Hanif Atmar, who had visited Delhi last month, and was returning after his two day visit to Moscow.
IBPS Current Affairs : INS Godavari, First Indigenously Designed Warship, Decommissioned In Mumbai
  • INS Godavari, the country’s first indigenously designed and built warship was decommissioned in Mumbai after thirty-two years of service.
  • The ship’s flag was lowered for the last time during the ceremony in Mumbai, with many of her former commanding officers on board.
IBPS Current Affairs : Free Wifi for travellers at Amritsar airport
  • The Airport Authority of India launched free Wifi services at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee Airport for international travellers.
  • The services were launched by Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat who was also accompanied by AAI Airport Director Venkateshwar Rao.
  • Launched in collaboration with Connexun Informatics, the services will be made available free of charge for 30 minutes during stay or transit hours of the passengers.
IBPS Current Affairs : Navy conducts large scale fleet exercise on eastern seaboard
  • Amid increasing Chinese activities in the Indian Ocean Region, the Navy has conducted a large scale Fleet exercise on the eastern seaboard, which included the nuclear submarine Chakra as well as units from India’s strategic Andaman and Nicobar Command.
  • The exercises were conducted across a vast geographical area, extending from the Northern Bay of Bengal to the Andaman Sea.
  • As many as 24 ships, 2 submarines and over 10 aircraft participated in the exercise, which included the nuclear submarine Chakra as well as units from the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
IBPS Current Affairs : Indian American researcher Dr. Rakesh K. Jain to be bestowed the National Medal of Science
Dr. Rakesh K. Jain, an Indian American professor at Harvard Medical School, will be presented with the National Medal of Science by President Barack Obama.
About Jain
  • Jain, who is also the director of tumor biology laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital, has a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT-Kanpur.
  • He, along with 16 other winners will receive the honor at a White House ceremony early next month.
IBPS Current Affairs : Russian defence choppers to be ‘made in India’
  • Moscow, Delhi sign 16 deals, urge joint action on terrorism.
  • In a major boost to strategic ties, India and Russia decided to expand cooperation across various sectors as they signed 16 pacts, including deals on joint manufacture of 226 military helicopters and construction of 12 atomic plants with involvement of local companies in India.
IBPS Current Affairs : Tripura, Meghalaya to get six more border markets
  • Union government has sanctioned a proposal to open six more border haats (markets) in its northeast frontier with Bangladesh. Four such facilities to trade limited commodities with participation of buyers and sellers from both countries are presently functional in Tripura and Meghalaya.
  • They said new border haats would come up at Raghna and Kamalpur in north Tripura; and Nalikata, Bholaganj, Rangkut and Shivbari in Meghalaya.
IBPS Current Affairs : RJio ropes in Shah Rukh as brand ambassador
  • Gearing up for its 4G and digital forays, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) has named Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan its brand ambassador. RJIL, the wireless arm of India’s largest private sector company Reliance Industries, will launch its much-awaited services 4G services on December 27.
  • There is some more work to be completed on the end-user front, he said, adding the “soft launch” will happen on December 27.
  • There will be another launch around March or April, he said, referring to the commercial launch of the services.
IBPS Current Affairs : Centre, IRDAI will share data tocrack down on uninsured vehicles
  • The Centre and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) plan to get tough with vehicles plying on the roads without insurance.
  • “The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has agreed to share data on vehicles plying in the country with us to identify those without mandatory motor third-party insurance,”
  •  There are about 12.5 crore vehicles in the country and 55 per cent of these do not have third-party insurance, according to official data.
IBPS Current Affairs : Reliance Defence ties up with Russian firm for air missile systems
  • Anil Ambani group company Reliance Defence Ltd and Russian defence manufacturer Almaz-Antey have decided to jointly make missiles and radar systems for the Indian armed forces.
  • The tie-up was announced in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia.
  • Reliance Defence said the companies have identified air defence missile systems including the TOR-1M missile programme, radars and automated control systems as areas of partnership under the Make in India initiative as well as offset policies of the Defence Ministry.

  • Russia and India signed agreements boosting cooperation in energy and defence, New Delhi aiming to modernize its armed forces and build a nuclear industry and sanctions-hit Moscow seeking investment and new markets.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin told a joint briefing with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Moscow supported New Delhi’s “strengthening role in resolving global and regional problems”.

  • Tata Consultancy ServicesBSE 0.54 % and US-based Cognizant have further cemented their positions at the top of the nation’s outsourcing industry in 2015, despite the worst slump in global technology spending since the 2008-09 financial meltdown and top technology consumers increasingly opting to in-source software projects.
  • Over the past three years, a clear separation has emerged between the leaders and the laggards of India’s $146 billion information technology industry, with the likes of TCSBSE 0.54 % and Cognizant each adding about $5 billion of incremental revenue during the period  nearly thrice as much as InfosysBSE -0.20 % and Wipro.
IBPS Current Affairs : Aircel in talks with telcos to sell part of its spectrum
  • In an attempt to reduce debt before a possible merger with Reliance Communications, Aircel is in talks with other operators, including Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India, to sell a part of its spectrum.
  • Aircel has a debt of around ₹20,000 crore on its books, and is looking to reduce it to ₹10,000 crore by selling some of its spectrum in the 2300 MHz band, sources close to the development.

Former wicket-keeper batsman Syed Kirmani was today nominated for this year’s Col. C.K.Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • The BCCI celebrates the birth centenary of Col. Cottari Kanakaiya Nayudu, the country’s first Test captain, by instituting an annual Lifetime Achievement Award, to honour individuals for their unparalleled contribution to Indian cricket, on and off the field.
  • The Award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for Rs.25 lakhs.
  • Kirmani, who made his Test debut in 1976 against New Zealand, kept wickets against India’s famous spin quartet.
IBPS Current Affairs : IOC, RIL grab top 2 slots in Fortune 500 India list
  • State-run Indian Oil Corporation has maintained its numero uno position in the list of Fortune 500 Indian companies 2015, followed by Reliance Industries in terms of revenue for the sixth consecutive year. (IOC tops the chart with an annual revenue of Rs. 4,51,911 crore, while Mukesh Ambani-led RIL’s full-year revenue is Rs. 3,82,565 crore)
  • Tata Motors with a revenue of Rs. 2,67,025 crore jumped to third slot from last year’s fifth place by replacing Bharat Petroleum (BPCL).
  • State Bank of India (SBI) moved to fourth position with an annual revenue of Rs. 2,57,289 crore, from sixth rank in 2014.
  • Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) is ranked fifth with an annual revenue of Rs. 2,40,367 crore. It had grabbed the third spot in last year’s ranking.
