IBPS Clerk Syllabus (2016-17)

IBPS is an autonomous institution which conducts and selects personnel for various financial institutions. IBPS annually conduct examination for the position of clerk in various public sector banks. This exam is conducted in three phases.
  1. Phase-I: IBPS Clerk preliminary (prelim) examination
  2. Phase-II: IBPS Clerk main examination
  3. Phase –III: Interview
The first two phases are common written examination. After clearing the first two phases, students are selected for the final interview round. Thousands of aspirants appear for this exam every year. Therefore, it is a very competitive examination and thus very selective in nature.

In this article, we provide a detailed IBPS clerk syllabus for all the three phases.
  • Starting with Phase-I: Preliminary Examination- Duration of IBPS clerk prelim exam is one hour (60 minutes). It has 100 objective type questions( 100 marks) which are divided under three sections:
Total questions
1.       Quantitative/ Numerical Ability 35(one marks each)
2.       English/ Verbal Ability 30 (one mark each)
3.       Logical Reasoning 35 (one mark each)
Total 100 questions for 100 marks*
  • Phase-II: After scoring the minimum cut-off (sectional and overall) marks in IBPS clerk prelim exam, the candidate is eligible to appear for the phase-II examination, IBPS clerk mains. The main exam has 200 objective type questions with the time duration of 2 hours (120 minutes). These 200 questions are subdivided into five sections.
Topics Total questions
1.       Quantitative/ Numerical Ability 40 (one mark each)
2.       English/ Verbal Ability 40 (one mark each)
3.       Logical Reasoning 40 (one mark each)
4.       Computer Awareness 40 (one mark each)
5.       General Awareness 40 (one mark each)
Total 200 for 200 marks*
  • Phase III: This is the final stage for the selection. The selected candidates are called for the common interview conducted by the participating organizations and coordinated by the Nodal banks in each state/UT with the help of IBPS.
Negative Marking: There will be a penalty for all the wrong answers in the IBPS clerk exam. For each question, for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, 0.25 marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

In this section, the difficulty level of questions ranges from easy  to medium level. This section is relatively time-consuming and thus require a lot of practice and proper time management strategies.
