Greetings for a `happy New Year’ Welcome-2016

Dear Expert Students,

Current Affairs and General Knowledge section of competitive examinations is always an area causing anxiety for the students. Some examinations give more focus on last 6 months Current Affairs while others contain more questions from GK. Normally objective type papers for recruitment to bank jobs give good coverage to current affairs It is very important to be well prepared for this section as the student can score more marks in relatively lesser time. But this requires regular systematic reference to source materials like one good Newspaper like `The Hindu’ or ` Economic Times’ and a website like `Mrunal.org’ for reference.

It is a good and useful practice to keep a jotting notebook right from the day one starts applying for jobs requiring highly competitive performance. He/she should regularly note preferably on a daily basis important news items in brief, while thoroughly studying the background notes by referring to authentic websites. This habit has several advantages. Apart from good understanding of the news items, it also helps the student to identify important news items for last minute reference instead of undergoing the strenuous nerve wrecking exercise of cramming volumes on the eve of the examination. This practice also increases the confidence level of the students and makes preparation for interview easier. It is observed from the past examination papers that in papers for junior level posts most of the questions are of basic type such as questions based on definition, who is who, acronyms and testing one or two key features relating to the news item on which the question is based. For higher level posts the questions could be challenging the understanding of the subject such as objectives, `How and Why’ of the underlying subject and covering several features of the topic in question. It is also observed that in bank recruitment examinations, nearly 85 to 90 percentages of the questions are from news items which have occurred within 3 to 4 months preceding the date of Examination.

This note has been prepared keeping in view basically IBPS clerical Exams scheduled in January 2016. These are not one liners. Students should be fully prepared for any type of questions on these topics. For instance, recently PM visited Turkey and UK. The questions can be anything from capital city of these countries, currencies, names of Heads of State, venue of important events, important areas of collaborations and even some acronyms. I have tried my best to cover all important news items for the last 3 months but it is not intended to be exhaustive. Normally 20 to 25 questions appear from sections A to G and about 10 to 15 questions from other news. Each of these topics has potentially 5 to 15 questions, which could appear in the competitive examination. The booklet on `BANKING AWARENESS and monthly bulletins on Current Affairs have adequate information to extensive enrichment of the knowledge.

Wishing you good luck
